CONCRET unveils new single ‘In The Air Tonight’ on Crosstown Rebels’ sister label Secret Teachings, featuring Chelsea Hines.
The Damian Lazarus curated experimental imprint welcomes the new project from the Italo-Mexican talent on 22nd November 2024, backed by a warping remix from Berlin-based DJ/producer Curses.
CONCRET, the brainchild of Diego Angelico Escobar, is a project synonymous with the underground Latin American music scene. A versatile artist and DJ, Escobar splits his time between Mexico City and New York, with a background spanning music, sound design, and performative art installations. Known for his eclectic style, which draws influences from post-punk, minimal wave, and house music, his music has graced labels such as Correspondant, Watergate, and Toy Tonics, while heading up his own imprint, Tráfico Music. With a growing international presence and appearances on radio shows like Radio Raheem, Red Light Radio, and The Lot, Escobar’s sets are renowned for their energy and uninhibited vibe.
His latest single, ‘In The Air Tonight’, marks a unique collaboration with New Orleans-based songwriter, vocalist, and violinist Chelsea Hines. An artist whose work spans genres from indie rock and folk to classical and ceremonial music, Hines is known for creating collaborative performances in sacred spaces worldwide. A product of an unexpected uniting to reinterpret a classic track through their joint creative lens, the production now makes its way to Damian Lazarus’ Secret Teachings imprint as both artists make their label debuts in the process.
“This release started as an afternoon of fun with Chelsea Hines in my studio trying to clean out ears from other projects and production. We always wanted to do a cover and we both loved this song. I knew it could turn interesting, but after recording her voice, the stems were forgotten in my drive for almost a year. Then, one day, I felt it was the right moment to play with it, and I started shaping and making this music anathema. It means a lot to release it this way, on this label and with the incredible remix from Curses.” – CONCRET.
